Married with two children. He has a university degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) / Technical University of Lisbon, a post-graduation in Welding Engineering ISQ/Lisboa), a MBA in International Business (Universidade Católica / Lisbon MBA), a Post-graduation in European Studies / Economic Stream (Lisbon Faculty of Law), and two leadership training programs in Sustainability and CSR for Senior Executives from the University of Cambridge.
He is currently in charge of Innovation & Sustainability Dept. at CIMPOR where he implements Sustainability policies, has the coordination of R&D cooperation with universities and research institutes, and national and international funding programs for CO2 mitigation. He is representing CIMPOR at the European Cement Research Academy (ECRA) steering committee for CO2 mitigation projects, and is developing Public Affairs activity as representative of the company in CEMBUREAU and ATIC.
In terms of business activity, he has a wide-ranging experience of over 30 years in cement industry and knowledge of cement plant operations: New engineering projects management, CAPEX plans, Internal Benchmarking as part the Performance Program, Plant technical performance & cash costs gaps identification and improvement action plans deployment, Benchmarking with external companies, Waste management & Co-processing, QMS/EMS ISO9001/14001, Audits in the fields of plant organization, Sustainability Reports, CO2 and other emissions monitoring, verification and reporting, Business & Strategy planning, R&D Projects Management, Cement Technical Training Program Management. He was also former CIMPOR’s Liaison Delegate to WBCSD and WBCSD’s “Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) where we collaborated in the development of sustainability good practices for the cement sector.
Before joining CIMPOR, he was also assistant teacher of Mechanical Technology at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and carried out the military service at the Portuguese Navy in the maintenance of military ships.
